Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Signing Ceremony

On 06 April 2026, Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Signing Ceremony as part of its ongoing commitment to achieving a sustainable, renewable-energy-powered campus. The event marked a significant milestone in DIU’s green energy transformation journey.

Under this initiative, DIU has launched a 3.4 MW capacity OPEX-based solar power project, designed to transition the entire campus and residential halls to solar electricity within the next four months. This system will significantly reduce reliance on conventional grid electricity while ensuring clean and reliable energy supply for academic and residential use.

The project follows an OPEX (operational expenditure) model, where DIU does not require any upfront capital investment. Instead, the university will purchase solar electricity at a fixed rate of 7 BDT per unit, ensuring long-term financial feasibility alongside environmental sustainability.

A key innovation of this project is the use of the latest L-type bifacial solar panels, which can generate electricity from both sides of the panel, increasing efficiency and maximizing energy output from available installation space.

This model was initially developed and successfully demonstrated at DIU and is now being positioned for national-scale expansion. In the coming days, the approach is expected to move toward a tender process involving 32 public universities, targeting a combined capacity of approximately 60 megawatts. Under this broader implementation plan, around 20% of each participating university’s total electricity demand will be met through solar energy systems.

This initiative represents a major step toward transforming Bangladesh’s higher education sector into a model for clean energy adoption, energy independence, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
