DIU Leads Initiative to Develop Solar Energy Model for Public Universities in Bangladesh

Daffodil International University (DIU) is advancing a national-level renewable energy initiative titled “Development of a Solar Based Electricity Model for Public Universities of Bangladesh and its Advocacy for Solar PV Electricity Promotion.” The program is designed to accelerate the adoption of solar energy across higher education institutions and support Bangladesh’s transition toward sustainable electricity generation.

The initiative focuses on establishing a solar research laboratory and training center, alongside developing an investment-friendly OPEX-based solar power model. This model is intended to encourage wider implementation of solar energy systems in universities while also promoting private sector participation in renewable energy development.

Under the program, a range of technical and policy-focused activities are being implemented. These include:

  • Solar system planning and design
  • Energy auditing in university buildings
  • Technical data collection and analysis
  • Advocacy and awareness programs across universities
  • Preparation of model agreements and policy frameworks for solar deployment

A key component of the initiative is capacity building, with structured training programs for students, faculty members, and professionals. These trainings focus on solar system design, installation, operation, and maintenance, helping to develop skilled human resources for the renewable energy sector.

The program ultimately aims to establish a sustainable solar electricity model for public universities in Bangladesh, significantly reduce dependency on fossil-fuel-based power, and strengthen national expertise in clean energy technologies.

By integrating research, policy development, and practical implementation, the initiative positions universities as active contributors to Bangladesh’s renewable energy transition and long-term energy sustainability goals.
