DownloadCAB Calls for Energy Sector Reforms to Prevent Exploitation
The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has proposed comprehensive reforms in the country’s energy sector to ensure transparency, accountability, fairness, and energy justice. Through its proposed Bangladesh Energy Transition Policy 2024, CAB presented an 11-point demand urging the government to protect consumers from unjust costs and exploitation in electricity, primary fuel, and renewable energy services. The proposals include maintaining stable energy prices for three years, establishing an Energy Sector Reform Commission, strengthening regulatory independence, ensuring stakeholder participation, eliminating non-competitive procurement practices, and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in corruption and misuse within the energy sector. The recommendations were presented at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on September 1, 2024.
